New partnership between IALP and Cochrane Rehabilitation

Cochrane Rehabilitation and the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP) are pleased to announce the signature of a collaboration agreement.

Background About the IALP

The International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP) is a non-political, non-governmental worldwide organisation of professionals and scientists that work together for the benefit of persons with speech, language, voice, swallowing and hearing disorders.

The organisation was founded in 1924 by Emil Froeschels to foster collaboration of professionals interested in disorders of communication and swallowing throughout the world. 

The IALP Strategic Plan 2023-2028 includes a vision, mission and four core strategies: 

IALP Vision 

IALP has a global vision to facilitate better understanding, knowledge, and care of all those with communication and swallowing disorders.

IALP Mission

To improve the quality of life of individuals with disorders of communication, speech, language, voice, hearing and swallowing.

IALP Four Core Strategies 

To advance its mission, IALP will:

facilitate science, education, and clinical practice through international cooperation and collaboration; 

create and share knowledge, skills, and information; and

provide a platform for international networking and advocacy.

IALP Membership

The IALP has a number of membership categories including individual members and membership for different types of societies including professional associations. 

IALP currently has (60) Affiliated Societies representing 320,000 professionals and 300 Individual Members. 

As a largely volunteer run organisation, IALP works collaboratively through its Board, Executive Committee, 14 Scientific Committees and through the partnerships it develops to deliver against our four core strategies.

Highlights from the past year include, but are not limited to:

Expanding and strengthening our partnership and collaborative working relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO) as officially recognized Non-State Actor and with other collaborating associations through memoranda of understanding.

The 32nd IALP World Congress held in Auckland in August 2023 which attracted 1,000 delegates.

We will be holding a Composium event on 27th - 29th June 2024 in Vienna to celebrate the 100th anniversary of IALP.
