European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (EARM)

The European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (EARM) is an independent non-profit medical organisation founded in 1969.  The goals of the Academy are to effect improvement in all areas of rehabilitation for the benefit of those in need.  Membership is invitational and consists of up to 50 distinguished European senior Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) specialists from academic and other backgrounds who have demonstrated leadership and excellence within the specialty of PRM.

The range of its work is centred mainly (though not exclusively) in Europe, where it promotes education and research, acting as a reference point for interface with the scientific, educational, research, and clinical subjects related to PRM. It is a ‘Think-Tank’, enabling an exchange of ideas and information and promoting dialogue among members of the PRM community.

The Academy offers an annual prize aimed at encouraging research and promoting the dissemination of knowledge in the field of rehabilitation health sciences. (see more on   https://aemr.eu/ )

The Academy meets twice yearly in different locations in Europe and conducts its work mainly through committees. It arranges debates and open sessions with invited speakers as well as special sessions during national and international meetings.

The Academy commissions research through its fellowship programme and supports advocacy on PRM and cognate topics. These are in health care, strategy, economics, education, emerging technology, culture, patient advocacy, human rights, etc. It also acts as a guardian of the ethical views and practices within the specialty.

The Academy publishes on relevant topics in international journals (position papers), and it provides an extensive education program of lectures, workshops, round tables, and “meet the expert” sessions.

A Speakers Platform of the European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (SPEAR) is under development.
