The 96th Annual Conference of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) took place in Chicago from November 3 to 8. Cochrane Rehabilitation was invited to hold a session which was presented by our Director and Coordinator, Stefano Negrini and Carlotte Kiekens, with the following title: “Cochrane Rehabilitation, the new international body to spread and strengthen evidence in rehabilitation medicine”. It was a great meeting with many sessions, lectures and workshops on a variety of rehabilitation topics. We appreciated a lot the multidisciplinary and interprofessional context and approach of the congress.
During the conference we had the opportunity to have several meetings with the ACRM leadership and in particular the Evidence and Practice Committee and Communications committee, as well as with the chief Editors of the Archives of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. A closer collaboration between ACRM and Cochrane Rehabilitation will formally start in the upcoming months.
As a side event our team was also invited by prof. Allen Heinemann for a visit of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, which is the former Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. We were very impressed with the way research and clinics are integrated. Furthermore we had an interesting discussion with the researchers team and Stefano Negrini gave a grand round lecture on evidence in Rehabilitation.
