SIMFER - The Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine

The Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (SIMFER) is the leading Italian specialist medical society for Physiatry. Members of SIMFER are PRM specialists, trainees, and other medical doctors working in the field of rehabilitation. It was established in 1958 and currently has about 3,000 members.

The main purposes of SIMFER are to promote high standards in the practice of physiatry through education, science, and ethics to support the role of PRM in healthcare systems and to advocate for the participation and inclusion of persons with disability.

Seventeen regional groups and 32 special interest scientific committees contribute to the activities of the society.

SIMFER organizes an annual national Congress; it publishes the bimonthly European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, which is also the official journal of the European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM), and the quarterly Italian Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Production and dissemination of documents of interest for the area of rehabilitation, such as position papers and guidelines, are part of the activities of the society, as are cooperation with the government, institutions, and other policymakers involved in the organization of healthcare services.

SIMFER is a member of ESPRM and the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) and has partnerships with many national and international organizations involved in PRM, including the Cochrane Rehabilitation field.
