The Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (TSPMR), founded in 1958, is currently the largest Society  of physical and rehabilitation medicine (PRM) in Turkey, covering almost 90% of PRM physicians as well as residents. One of the purposes of the society is to follow new developments, studies, innovations and publications in the field of PRM, and to hold various scientific activities which contribute to the training and education. There are TSPMR school activities twice a year (winter and summer schools) for residents, regular monthly scientific meetings, symposiums and  workshops. TSPRM also holds the National PM&R Congresses biennially, the first national congress having been held in 1967 and the 27th National Congress in 2019. TSPRM organizes a 4-day scientific activity every two years dedicated  only to educational courses on a large variety of PRM topics since 2016. You can easily follow their activities on their website (www.tftr.org.tr/en).

After signing the Memorandum of Understanding with Cochrane Rehabilitation in July 2018, TSPMR set up activities for collaboration that includes:
1. giving spaces on a regular basis for Cochrane Rehabilitation sessions and the relevant scientific presentations during the congresses;
2. supporting  the dissemination of information  by  spreading the Turkish version of the Cochrane Rehabilitation flyer;
3. “linking" the Cochrane Rehabilitation website to the homepage of the TSPMR website;
4. spreading Cochrane Rehabilitation newsletter among its members.

Recently a publication agreement has been signed between Cochrane Rehabilitation and the Turkish Journal of Physical Medicine and  Rehabilitation for the publication of Cochrane Corners four times a year starting from December 2019. The Turkish Journal of Physical Medicine and  Rehabilitation, which is the official journal of  TSPMR,  has been published  since  the beginning of 1960 and it is indexed by international databases such as Science Citation Index Expanded, Pubmed Centrale, EMBASE, Scopus earning, EBSCO, Index, Copernicus and DOAJ (www.ftrdergisi.com). It is an international open-access, peer-reviewed journal bringing the latest developments in PM. The language of the journal is English, and is published quarterly.

Next year, in addition, to the above-mentioned activities, TSPMR wants to organize a workshop about evidence based clinical practice relevant to rehabilitation.

The translation of Cochrane Rehabilitation news, including the newsletters and the blogshots, has been planned in order to enhance the dissemination and understanding to a larger audience of local health professionals.
TSPMR has a facebook page and is planning to use it to disseminate the information about Cochrane Rehabilitation.
